This is the official blog published by the University of Alberta to provide a forum for information sharing, discussion and debate about current topics relevant to the university. The president, vice-presidents and their designates will post entries as often as possible to address issues, rumours, questions and decisions. Comments and questions will be moderated by staff of Folio, the university’s staff/faculty newspaper. Questions will be answered on the blog as soon as possible.
The academy is at its best when engaged in a spirited, collegial debate about issues at hand. We have faced contentious issues in our past and dealt with them civilly and collegially. We understand that many members of the university community do not have regular access to senior administrators, so this blog is intended to provide an official forum for discussion, comment and debate for all staff, students and faculty. If you are pleased about something, let us know. If you are confused about something, ask questions. If you are concerned about something, tell us.
We expect that you will be civil and collegial in your participation here. A university is defined by the provisions and responsibilities of academic freedom, so while anonymous comments are possible, we encourage you to speak under your own name. Comments that violate the community guidelines will not be posted, but no one will be censored or blocked for his or her viewpoint. Comments that are approved for posting will not be edited.
